Charcoal Basket vs Fire Grate

What do you see when you look down at your firebox?

Lump charcoal burns inside of a Crucible Firebox.

I see a charcoal basket with handles.

I don’t have a charcoal basket. The charcoal is resting on a steel fire grate with holes.

Do not allow the ash area to fill all the way up to the charcoal basket!

This prevents air from flowing around the basket, causing it to get extremely hot and reducing its life expectancy.

Ash cleaning is so simple! Before your next cook, while the grill is cool, just grab the basket’s handles and shake the ash down into the pan.

If the Ash Pan is about halfway full of ash, lift the basket out and set it aside. Now pull out the Ash Pan and dump the ash into a noncombustible container.
