Multi-Level Cooking System
for Saffire Kamados
Multiple Layers of Cooking Flexibility
Saffire’s new Multi-Level Cooking System allows you to cook food both at the top near the rim and down by the charcoal at the same time. It’s no longer necessary to choose between cooking or quickly searing your food, or to always adjust your cooking grates halfway through your cook. With the two split grids, called the Multi-Grid, included in Saffire’s new Cooking System, you have so many more options available to you!
Place food at the lower level, for intense, radiant, searing heat, or at the top level, further from the flames, for less intense temperatures and easy access to your food.
Left/Right or Front/Back Heat Zones
Half-grids may be arranged in either direction. Turn them one way to have the front or back of the cooking grate higher or lower. Turn them the other way to have the left or right side of the cooking grate higher or lower. Front and back, or left and right: it just depends on your personal preference. The choice is yours.

Excellent Temperature Control
Adding one or both of the ceramic deflectors from the Two-Piece Heat Deflector allows you to control the heat flow even more. Cook with indirect heat on one side of the grill, and direct heat on the other side! It’s great for slow-cooking one food, while searing another. Also use it to create a slow-cook holding area, so you can first quickly sear your food, and then let it cook all the way through on the side.
Three Levels of Cooking
Additional grids may be added to cook on one and a half, or even two full levels. The Secondary Cooking Grid may also be placed on top of that to cook on three levels at the same time! Smoke or bake on three levels at once, or take out the heat deflector, half of the middle grid, and the Secondary Cooking Grid to sear on the bottom and cook at the top near the rim.

FAQs
Does the Multi-Rack Fit My Grill?
The Multi-Rack will fit all XL grills, and almost all Large grills. Note that we now offer a Multi-Rack to fit inside of the SG18 and SG22. If you have an SG18/SG22, you should purchase this specially-crafted Multi-Rack.
If you have a Large grill from before 2018, you may need to sand around the inside of the rim for the multi-rack to fit nicely. If your grill measures 19″ from rim to rim (or in other words, from one side to the opposite), it should fit without any sanding. If your grill measures 18 ¾” from rim to rim, sanding will be necessary.
You can use a metal file or even sandpaper to sand around the inside rim of your grill. You shouldn’t need to file any more than a quarter of an inch around the edge, and it’s okay if filing takes off some of the gasket seal too. More information can be found here.
How Does My Cooking Grid Fit on My Multi-Rack?
Good question! There are two kinds of Multi-Racks, so first we need to determine which one you have.
Standard Multi-Rack
Description
If you have our standard Multi-Rack, two of the posts will have one inward-facing hook to hold onto your cooking grid and two posts will have two inward-facing hooks. See image below.

Placement
Your Multi-Rack sits on top of your firebox, with the rings resting on the firebox and the posts sticking up in the air for your cooking grids to hook onto.
Attaching the Cooking Grids
To use the top level of the Multi-Rack, take one of your Multi-Grid halves and attach the round side to a post with a single hook, making sure both far ends of the half grid attach to both posts with two hooks. Do the same thing with the other half grid. Each half grid should be attached to opposite sides and hooks of each other. See the image below as an example.

If you want to place either half of your Multi-Grid down near the charcoal for a more intense cook, simply slip it past the hooks and let it rest on the bottom level.
SG18/22 Multi-Rack
Description
If you have our SG18/22 Multi-Rack, all four posts will have one inward-facing hook to hold onto your cooking grid. Each hook will be at a 45 degree angle. See image below.

Placement
Your SG18/22 Multi-Rack sits on top of your firebox, with the rings resting on the firebox and the posts sticking up in the air for your cooking grids to hook onto.
Attaching the Cooking Grids
To use the top level of the SG18/22 Multi-Rack, make sure it’s turned so that the hooks point perpendicular from the front of the grill. Take your Primary Cooking Grid (you can’t use a Multi-Grid) and attach the cross bars that run along the entire length of the cooking grid to the posts. Again, be sure the Multi-Rack is turned so that when the bars on the top of the cooking grid are running parallel to the front of your grill, the hooks on the Multi-Rack are perpendicular to the bars and will hook onto the bars.
If you want to place your Primary Cooking Grid down near the charcoal for a more intense cook, simply turn it 90 degrees so the bars slip past the hooks and let it rest on the bottom level.
